Tony winner Laura Benanti was one of the universally praised parts of the otherwise underwhelming (Carrie Underwhelming) Sound Of Music Live! In this Theater Mania video she decides to go ahead and audition “For any role you see me in” for NBC’s next musical venture, Peter Pan Live! She offers some casting suggestions (Kerry Washington as Tinker Bell), sells her ambidextrous hook skills, and points out the weird dynamic between Peter and Wendy, all with the droll sense of humor that have made her beloved by the Broadway community. If NBC hopes to celebrate the magic of live theater, Benanti has taken it upon herself to capture the sweaty desperation that’s part and parcel of the theatrical experience.
