Laurence Fishburne to hunt UFOs in new anthology series based on the Rendlesham incident

Deadline reports that Laurence Fishburne will pursue UFOs in a new series, which, sadly, isn’t his own version of The Lowe Files. Called Rendlesham, the anthology drama from Sony and Eleventh Hour Films will center around a much-ballyhooed UFO incident that occurred at a US air base close to the village of Rendlesham, Suffolk in 1980.

Fishburne, who’s stayed busy in recent years with Black-ish and Marvel’s Ant-Man And The Wasp, will play a retired American airman who in 2020 returns to the show’s namesake town to care for his wife’s dying father. There, he must grapple with what he saw during the height of the Cold War in 1980. The series will hop between the two different timelines.

The Rendlesham sightings have the same notoriety and word association in the U.K. as the Roswell incident has in the U.S., and no shortage of theories have emerged from the Ministry of Defence’s refusal to investigate the case. What gives it credibility above other reported cases are the numerous air force servicemen, including Lieutenant Colonel Charles Halt, who claim that they witnessed an extraterrestrial event.

Joe Ahearne, a Doctor Who director and Da Vinci’s Demons writer, will pen the series. As for its anthology elements, it’s unclear as to whether subsequent seasons would focus on different extraterrestrial sightings or other figures associated with the Rendlesham incident. It’s also unclear just how much involvement Blink 182's Tom DeLonge will have, but we’re hoping it’s “a lot.”
