In the criminal justice system, the people are represented by two separate yet equally important groups: the police, who investigate crime; and the district attorneys, who prosecute the offenders. Now one of them is getting a new reality show. [Chung CHUNG.]
As reported by Variety, A&E has announced that it will air an eight-episode reality series from Law & Order creator Dick Wolf. The show, tentatively titled D.O.A., will focus on a trio of investigators as they take a second look at “controversial murder cases.” The team will have no prior knowledge of the cases, leaving them to re-examine evidence and question witnesses on their own. At that point, as Variety says, “the question is whether or not they ultimately agree with the original verdict.”
Obviously, if they don’t, it means either the real investigators or the people on the show did a pretty bad job. The latter might be crummy TV, but the former means the killer is still on the loose—and that would be amazing TV. “You’re a bunch of loose cannon reality TV stars!” Dick Wolf will shout, slamming his fists on the desk. “Now get out there and collar the real perp or I’ll bump you back down to your real jobs as police officers so fast it’ll make your heads spin!” Then, someone in the background will get a convenient phone call and relay a crucial tip that blows the case wide open.
