Learn that dance from Girls with the help of this tutorial
While Girls has been criticized for being too affluent or too “white,” it’s clear now that the show’s real problem is pretending that its casual, drunken dance routines are not painstakingly choreographed. Thankfully, a new online tutorial is correcting that assumption by demonstrating just how much work went into the 45-second dance number featured in “Beach House.” In the tutorial, Girls choreographer Celia Rowlson-Hall walks through the many, many steps of the routine, including the “Shoulder, Shoulder, Surprise,” the “Get On The Piano,” and “Weird Dinosaur Pterodactyl Something.” The video moves awfully fast—and unfortunately doesn’t feature Harry Nilsson’s “You’re Breaking My Heart” as the episode did. But as Hannah reminds everyone, it’s not about being perfect; it’s about having a lot of spirit. (Just don’t be on the four count when it’s time for the three.)
