Legion composer Jeff Russo on why there’s still hope for superhero themes

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is as big as it has ever been (with another surefire hit premiering this Friday) but, as the YouTube channel Every Frame A Painting pointed out, the film scores can sometimes be a bit generic. As Legion composer Jeff Russo tells us, these shortcomings are usually not the fault of the composers, who are often asked to score tonal or atmospheric music. In the video above, Russo discusses the state of superhero movie scoring, and tells us why the industry isn’t completely doomed.
