Lego joins 21st century, releases female scientist minifigs

File under “Everything Is Awesome”: Lego is releasing an official set of female scientist minifigs. Titled “Research Institute,” the new set is the result of fan-submitted ideas from the 2013 winter review, where female scientists beat out an impressive bunch—including a Sherlock-themed set and a Back To The Future DeLorean. The new set, available for sale this August, will include a paleontologist, an astronomer, and a chemist—all of them women, as indicated by their lipstick and long eyelashes. Considering that Lego only just released its first female scientist minifigure in September of last year (who, it must be noted, has some gray shading on her torso to apparently create the illusion of a waist), the fact that an all-female set is being released is pretty awesome, a word used repeatedly in the announcement video.
