Legoland to begin showing a 4D Lego Movie spinoff

Chris Miller and Phil Lorde’s The Lego Movie was such a success that it spawned three sequels: The Lego Batman Movie, due February 10, 2017; Ninjago, set for a September 22, 2017 release; and The Lego Movie Sequel, hitting theaters on May 18, 2018. But in a business where two sequels are company, three are a franchise, and four are an absolute zeitgeist, it was only a matter of time until Lego started assembling another follow-up.

i09 reports that the interactive sequel will play exclusively at Legolands across the globe staring as early as January 2016. The Lego Movie 4D: A New Adventure was written and directed by Rob Schrab, who is doing The Lego Movie Sequel but insisted on playing with his toys early. The movie follows “Emmet, Wyldstyle, Unikitty, Benny, and MetalBeard after they receive a mysterious invitation leading them to a new theme park where all of the rides are based on the characters’ adventures in The LEGO Movie.”

Of course, the invitations are part of some evil meta-plot the characters must navigate, but this time they will do so with the help of the audience. “Using elements such as wind, water, smoke, and special lighting effects, the larger-than-life experience brings the film’s main characters, Emmet and Wyldstyle, back together with their friends for another awesome adventure,” according to the release, which we would make fun of if it didn’t sound so awesome.

The Lego Movie 4D: A New Adventure will boast returning voice talents including Elizabeth Banks, Alison Brie, Nick Offerman, and Charlie Day, along with a new character named Risky Business voiced by Patton Oswalt. However, there’s no mention of Chris Pratt, who might be too A-list these days to offer his talents to movies shown in theme parks, despite having no problem starring in movies about theme parks.

The 4D film will premiere on January 29, 2016 at Legoland Florida, and it will debut at Legoland California on February 6. It will then appear at various Legoland locations throughout the year.
