Although he died in late December of 2015, it’s natural to include Motörhead frontman Ian “Lemmy” Kilmister in the host of incredibly talented musicians—including, but not limited to, David Bowie, Prince, and Leonard Cohen—who died in the memetically lethal year of 2016. Now, we can pay simultaneous tribute to Lemmy and Bowie, thanks to a new track from Motörhead’s upcoming album Under Cöver.
Recorded in 2015, as part of the sessions that eventually became Bad Magic, “Heroes” is reportedly one of the final pieces of music Lemmy ever recorded with the band. The song’s video is full of footage of and pictures of Lemmy, as his unforgettable, gravely voice belts out Bowie’s lyrics. According to Rolling Stone, the band only ever played the song live a single time, at Germany’s Aftershock Festival in 2015. Meanwhile, the album itself—which includes covers from throughout Motörhead’s career, including songs by Metallica, The Sex Pisols, and The Ramones—is due out September 1.
