Lemony Snicket warns of unpleasantness in the new Series Of Unfortunate Events trailer

The latest trailer for Netlix’s A Series Of Unfortunate Events opens with Patrick Warburton’s Lemony Snicket telling the audience to watch something happier. Of course, we didn’t and you won’t, as the events on display aren’t so much terrifying as they are zany and ridiculous.

Because while, yes, the Baudelaire orphans are miserable at the hands of Neil Patrick Harris’ Count Olaf, Daniel Handler and Barry Sonnenfeld have packed the series with comic stars, and Aasif Mandvi, Catherine O’Hara, Joan Cusack, and Rhys Darby are all in this footage, hamming it up. What remains to be seen is whether Malina Weissman and Louis Hynes—as Violet and Klaus Baudelaire, respectively—can capture Netflix bingers’ hearts the way the Stranger Things kids did over the summer.

The nastiness will hit computers—and anywhere else you watch Netflix—January 13.
