Lena Dunham doesn’t want weight-loss compliments from Us Weekly

Because the end of Girls has not meant the end of the tired and sexist obsession over Lena Dunham’s body, the writer and actress has posted a lengthy rebuttal on Instagram to the notion that she would provide “diet tips” to a magazine. Dunham was featured on the cover of a publication—ahem, it was Us Weekly—as ostensibly part of the feature on “20 Slimdown Diet Tips Stars Are Using.” Us promised to reveal how Dunham “gets motivated.” In response, Dunham wrote a list of her 20 “tips” which involve a mix of election-related anger as well as health issues including “abdominal adhesions pinning ovary below uterus.”

Earlier this year, Dunham used the same social media platform to applaud a Refinery29 article that declared “People Need To Stop Talking About Lena Dunham’s Weight.” She explained: “Right now I’m struggling to control my endometriosis through a healthy diet and exercise. So my weight loss isn’t a triumph and it also isn’t some sign I’ve finally given in to the voices of trolls.” Just last week, Dunham was in the hospital following complications from a surgery she underwent to combat the aforementioned disorder.
