Leslie Mann, John Cena, and Ike Barinholtz to play overbearing parents in The Pact
Variety reports that Leslie Mann, Ike Barinholtz, and professional wrestler John Cena have all been tapped to star in 30 Rock, Pitch Perfect 2, and New Girl producer Kay Cannon’s directorial debut, The Pact. Written by a team including Cannon’s husband Eben Russell, The Pact follows three parents (Mann, Barinholtz, and Cena) who learn that their daughters have made a pact to lose their virginities on prom night. Instead of letting their children be autonomous beings or teaching them about safe sex or something sensible like that, the parents band together to go out and try to stop their daughters before—gasp!—it’s too late.
You know how car commercials always seem to center on a dad who doesn’t want his daughter talking to boys? This sounds like that, but in movie form. Also, it’s a movie about teenage girls written by five dudes! What could possibly go wrong? At least Cannon—who wrote Pitch Perfect, Pitch Perfect 2, and the (eventually) upcoming Pitch Perfect 3—is at the helm. But wait, there are more dudes! Seth Rogan, Evan Goldberg, Chris Fenton, and James Weaver will produce alongside Hurwitz and Schlossberg. Nathan Kahane, Joe Drake, and Chris Cowles will executive produce.
Cena recently made his foray into the comedy world with roles in Trainwreck and Sisters, which also starred Barinholtz. Barinholtz also appeared in Suicide Squad and Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising this year and wrote the film Central Intelligence. Mann recently starred in How To Be Single and the upcoming Robert De Niro-starring The Comedian.
