Let the latest trailer for Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma convince you that it must be seen on a big screen

Following a teaser this past August, Netflix has shared an official trailer for Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma, a long-in-the-works drama that’s been reaping Oscar buzz since it premiered at the Venice International Film Festival. Our own A.A. Dowd described it as a “visually sumptuous, intimately epic (or is it epically intimate?) return to the Mexico City of his youth,” adding that it functions, in many ways, as an “urban mosaic” of a bygone time. That cinematic grandeur is on display in this new trailer, which stuns with its sweeping, intricate shots, whether they be of a roaring mob or of a tiny lizard skipping across the dirt. We also get a better look at the family we follow through a year of emotional and political strife in the early ‘70s, as well as the live-in housekeeper, Cleo (Yalitza Aparicio, a first time actress also getting Oscar buzz) who functions as the film’s beating heart.

Roma will see a limited theatrical release on November 21, and will land on Netflix on December 14.
