Let us now gaze upon Superman's fucked-up, mustache-free upper lip
You know your tentpole franchise is in trouble when more people are talking about an airbrushed mustache than the movie from which that mustache was airbrushed. DC Films’ lame Justice League opened to just $96 million, making its opening weekend the lowest yet for the DCEU, and while a small contingent of dweebs are campaigning to see the film’s “original” cut, most are content to skip the film in favor of gazing at the above image of Henry Cavill’s digitized, Lawnmower Man-ass mug.
The story is this: Henry Cavill, the DCEU’s Superman, was filming Mission: Impossible 6 when he was called back for reshoots of Justice League. Cavill had grown a mustache for his MI:6 role, and Paramount was so taken with it that they demanded he not shave it. This is an especially hilarious request considering fake mustaches are a thing, but Warner Bros. relented and decided it would be easier to just wipe the thing out in post using the kinds of digital trickery they’ve proven themselves so inept at using effectively in every other DC movie.
The result has given us multiple breakdowns, dissections, and think pieces about the ‘stache, as well as a feast of amazing tweets.
