Let's all feign surprise that they're making a new Tarzan

With updates of Conan The Barbarian, The Lone Ranger, and even Zorro on the way, it was only a matter of time and desperation before someone suggested bringing back Tarzan as a way of fulfilling the obligation of a pitch meeting. Not wanting to take any chances in its handling of the sort-of-beloved Edgar Rice Burroughs creation, Warner Bros. has actually assigned two different writers to craft competing scripts, one of which could revive the vine-swinging king of jungle adventure for a whole new generation that doesn’t really like to go outdoors much. The first draftee is Adam Cozad (the screenwriter who most recently had his Jack Ryan reboot handed off to David Koepp), while the studio is also reportedly talking to Hustle And Flow’s Craig Brewer about seeing what he could bring to Tarzan, and whether either of them could find a new take on a character that has already featured in over 100 movies and TV shows over the years. Given the direction most modern reboots tend to take, don’t be surprised if Tarzan is left to fight his way through a nuclear wasteland riddled with irradiated apes, or teams up with Captain Nemo to solve animal crimes and save Jane from the lost city of Atlantis at the behest of Winston Churchill.
