Leviathan fuckin' smiles as HBO's Deadwood movie gets a new teaser, release date

You heard it here, hoopleheads: The Deadwood movie is really, truly coming to HBO this spring, a fact that we’re finally coming to accept thanks to a premiere date and a teaser trailer.

“This town is a sanctuary,” intones Ian McShane’s Al Swearengen at its outset, offering us the first lines of dialogue to be heard from the anticipated follow-up, which has been floating around in some form or another since the series was unceremoniously canceled in 2006. John Hawkes’ Sol, Molly Parker’s Alma, Paula Malcomson’s Trixie, Dayton Callie’s Charlie, William Sanderson’s E.B., and Robin Weigert’s Calamity Jane are all on hand in the below teaser, as is Gerald McRaney’s George Hearst, who we’d all like to see get a little retribution. Also returning are Sean Bridgers’ Johnny, W. Earl Brown’s Dan, Kim Dickens’ Joanie, and Keone Young’s Mr. Wu (Wu!), not to mention Brad Dourif’s Doc Cochran, who we really thought would be dead by now.

Missing from the cast list? Garret Dillahunt, who goddamned better get to die again in this go around.

Here’s a synopsis:

In the Deadwood film, the indelible characters of the series are reunited after ten years to celebrate South Dakota’s statehood. Former rivalries are reignited, alliances are tested and old wounds are reopened, as all are left to navigate the inevitable changes that modernity and time have wrought.

Deadwood will have you screaming “cocksucker!” on May 31.
