According to a post on his official website, drummer Levon Helm of The Band "is in the final stages of his battle with cancer," and his family is asking for fans to send "your prayers and love to him as he makes his way through this part of his journey." Helm was first diagnosed with throat cancer in the late '90s, and treatment initially crippled his legendary vocals. But by the mid-'00s, Helm was back performing and recording with his voice nearly at full-strength.
