In response to the election of a Donald Trump, a civil war has waged between the centrist, establishment politics represented by Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama and the further-left, socialist policies of Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. The recent election of Tom Perez to head the Democratic National Committee in lieu of Sanders surrogate Keith Ellison was seen as a blow to the far left. Still, the unified left has rallied together to resist Trump’s actions via obstructionist Tea Party-inspired actions, leading, among other things, to a bunch of crazy-ass town halls last week.
Earlier today, they were challenged by the 4chan political sect with this pithy envisioning of their shared goals:

Indeed, the future liberals want is people of varying physical appearances using mass transit alongside each other. And so in response, they rallied with supplementary examples of the sort of future they wanted. It’s an inspiring display of unity, reminding us that no matter what arguments there are on the means, the end remains a utopia of tolerance, furries, and Shrek:
It also provided an opportunity for images of different types of animals being friends, which is the sort of thing for which only liberals could possibly have the stomach.
And so on. Politically minded 4chan users are no doubt readying their own new political meme involving an image macro from an old cartoon and a coded racial epithet.
