Life Doesn't Go On

Somebody break the news to Grandma: An official statement from Time, Inc. CEO Anne Moore confirms that Life magazine is no more. Life, which dominated newstands for nearly four decades beginning in 1936, had fallen on hard times since being reduced to a monthly in 1972, and in fact has appeared only as a weekend supplement (similar to other Hollywood shill-rags like Parade) in 60 newspapers since 2004. Life will be officially taken out of circulation on April 20, though its website will remain intact, and in this memo to her staff, Moore also hints at a new portal that will soon make the magazine's millions of photos available to the public.
