Lifetime finds one Marilyn Monroe to rule them all

Lifetime has found a Marilyn Monroe for its upcoming miniseries, which is totally necessary because there might be someone out there who doesn’t know that although she was pretty, she was also very, very sad. In fact, did you know Marilyn Monroe wasn’t even her real name? It was Norma Jeane Mortenson. I know!

Anyway, Pan Am’s Kelli Garner has been cast as the doomed actress; Garner played a redhead on that show, but can easily become a blonde for the four-hour Lifetime Original Event because Hollywood is a lie built on peroxide and clinical depression. Creatively titled Marilyn, the miniseries will, according to The Hollywood Reporter, delve into her “family life and how she succeeded in hiding from an all-too-invasive world,” a story that has definitely never been told before. Here’s Lifetime’s official description:

“Marilyn is both the personification of sex, whose first marriage ironically collapses because of her frigidity, and a fragile artist who seeks the approval and protection of men. But after tumultuous marriages with Joe DiMaggio and Arthur Miller, she realizes she has the strength to stand on her own. She becomes the face and voice of an era, yet wants most of all to be someone’s mother and someone’s little girl. She’s the Marilyn you haven’t seen before, the artist who, by masking the truth with an image, gives her greatest performance.”
