Last week’s announcement that Netflix is bringing back Full House for a sequel series was met with initial excitement from the nostalgia inclined, followed by a sinking feeling of disappointment when everyone remembered that it was actually not that great of a show. A similar emotional roller coaster is zooming through the hearts of Lifetime movie aficionados today as The Hollywood Reporter brings word that the network is developing an unauthorized behind-the-scenes Full House movie.
This comes after Lifetime’s recent look behind the scenes of another ’80s sitcom people remember fondly simply because it reminds them of their carefree youths, The Unauthorized Saved By The Bell Story. Even with the promise of all the juicy details from Dustin Diamond’s tell-all book, that TV movie failed to live up to its campy promise. And this movie, which promises to explore the cast’s attempts to achieve work-life balance and “the warm bond that grew between [them] as the show became one of America’s most beloved family sitcoms,” doesn’t even sound like it has any threesomes in it.
With any luck, the network will go old school with it. With a little artistic license, Andrea Barber (a.k.a Kimmy Gibbler) could grow up to marry a con artist who would steal her identity and adopt a baby in her name, only to get that baby addicted to online porn and sell it to a Russian baby dealer. That, we would watch.
No date has been set for Lifetime’s Full House movie, but casting is expected to begin shortly.
