Lifetime orders The Omen sequel series
As previously reported, Lifetime is developing a sequel series to the 1976 horror classic The Omen; that series, titled Damien, has now received a six-episode order for a 2015 premiere. Written by The Walking Dead’s former showrunner Glen Mazzara, the series will follow in the footsteps of shows like Bates Motel and Hannibal, working off original material to add depth to Damien Thorn and explain what happened once he came of age, much like the film’s two follow-ups, Damien: Omen II and Omen III: The Final Conflict. But in regard to this series, Lifetime’s Rob Sharenow tells Deadline, “Mazzara has reimagined Damien as a dark, romantic, antihero and this fresh take blends complex characters with premium storytelling to make something truly original.”
Produced by Fox TV Studios, whose sibling 20th Century Fox produced all three Omen movies, the show is slated to beat both The Exorcist and Friday The 13th TV shows to air, as well as any other horror cash-ins yet to come.
