Like its protagonist, season one of The Last Man On Earth will not be alone
From its one-man-show premise, Will Forte’s The Last Man On Earth has developed into a rich and interesting series, thanks to game performances from Kristen Schaal as Carol, January Jones’ Melissa, and Mel Rodriguez as literally the nicest guy on Earth, Todd. And much like Forte’s Phil eventually discovered he wasn’t alone, so too will season one of the comedy have company, as Variety reports that the network has picked up the show for a second season.
The renewal isn’t quite as shocking as discovering the rest of humanity has perished from a virus, since despite the usual ratings slide after the big premiere, it has averaged a 1.8 rating among the 18-49 demo with 4.4 million watching, numbers that jump to a 2.7 rating and 6.6 million if you include the Live+3 viewers. Also, Fox is probably more than eager to be in the Phil Lord and Chris Miller business, since the writer-directors of The Lego Movie (and executive producers of The Last Man On Earth) are currently among the most in-demand people in Hollywood. Also, we’re going to pretend that we didn’t just now realize that Will Forte’s Phil Miller is a combination of their names. We noticed that all along.
