Lily James joins Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver

It feels like it’s been a while since we heard about Baby Driver, the movie that Edgar Wright started working on after he scurried away from Ant-Man. Back in January, we reported that The Fault In Our Stars’ Ansel Elgort was in talks to star in the film, and—in addition to that apparently being made official in the last few months—Variety is now reporting that he’ll be joined by Cinderella‘s Lily James. As we’ve mentioned before, Baby Driver is about a young getaway driver “who relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack” and runs afoul of some kind of criminal. Then, “a doomed heist threatens his life, love, and freedom.” With Elgort playing the lead—who we assume is named “Baby Driver”—that means James will probably play the “love” that is threatened. Or maybe she’ll be the crime boss? That would be pretty cool.

Either way, Wright is writing the script and directing Baby Driver, so while everything about it may make it sound like a teen-friendly Drive, we’re still holding out hope that the final product will be full of that classic Edgar Wright pizzazz.
