Line up now: Beverly Hills Cop IV will be out in March of 2016

In a fantastic Random Roles interview from 2012, Ronny Cox spoke fondly of the first two Beverly Hills Cop movies, but added: “They wanted me to be in Beverly Hills Cop III, but… I read the script.” (Sick burn, Cox.) Now, more than two decades after the last film—and after a quick detour that almost led to a TV version of the franchise—Eddie Murphy will return as Axel Foley, presumably scarred but smarter, and frequently doing that inhale/laugh thing that he does so well. The date—get your calendar ready—will be March of 2016, which is so far in the future that maybe Murphy is hoping the studio will just forget about it by then and leave him alone. Probably not, considering the combined box office of the first three is north of $700 million. (Just the box office, mind you.) There’s no word yet on whether IV (if we’re following the stylization of the earlier movies) will feature Axel Foley embroiled in a plot about a counterfeiting ring operating out of an amusement park, which will then name a character after him, but there are writers assigned to figure all of that out: Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec, who wrote Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. We’ve got the guy to do the soundtrack, below.
