Reboot/remake fever continues to grow over Hollywood like a wistful fungus, with executives everywhere waxing poetic about the chances of rebooting their most beloved (i.e., financially successful) properties. Lionsgate—which currently finds itself in a bit of a franchise drought, to the point that it’s reportedly trying to get a cinematic John Wick universe off the ground—is no different, with executives openly pining for a time when sparkly vampires and teenage battle royales ruled the box office.
Variety reports that the company’s CEO, Jon Feltheimer, expressed those sentiments during a quarterly earnings report today, hinting to investors that the company is always hungry for more content set in the Twilight or Hunger Games franchises, two universes that have proven extremely profitable for Lionsgate in the past. “There are a lot more stories to be told, and we’re ready to tell them when our creators are ready to tell those stories,” Feltheimer said, acknowledging that the studio could only move forward with those plans if authors Stephenie Meyer and Suzanne Collins were on board. That would presumably require some hefty incentives on the studio’s part, but we can still keep our fingers crossed for Twilight: Now With Handsome Mummies or Katniss: Origins to get wished into theaters by opportunistic/optimistic execs some time in the near future.
