Lionsgate promises/threatens 7 more Power Rangers movies

Because what’s worth doing once, is worth doing until even the most diehard fans lose interest, Variety quotes Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer as saying that there could be up to seven more Power Rangers movies after the one that’s coming next March.

“We are really, really excited about the Power Rangers movie,” Feltheimer said in a conference call, presumably while smashing two action figures together. “We could see doing five or six or seven.” The company’s enthusiasm apparently comes from the flurry of media attention that accompanied the reveal of the shiny metal boobs on the new Rangers’ updated suits, because God knows if you can’t tell if it’s a boy or a girl punching that eyeball alien, society won’t last long enough to sustain eight movies.

Then again, maybe there is enough there to sustain an eight-movie franchise. After all, there have already been 23 seasons of 19 distinct Power Rangers TV series and two feature films. So, you know, once 2025 rolls around and the concept starts to get a little stale, just draw some dinosaur faces on the helmets, and boom. Franchise renewed.
