Lionsgate to launch Comic-Con-themed subscription video channel
Even if you didn’t sit through the hell that is purchasing a San Diego Comic-Con badge this year, you’ll still be able to get a taste of the event from the comfort—and sweet, sweet solitude—of your couch. In fact, pretty soon, people will be able to experience one of the world’s largest pop culture events 24 hours a day, seven days a week without waiting in line for two days first. Variety reports that Lionsgate has partnered with Comic-Con International to create a Comic-Con-themed subscription VOD service.
The channel, which will launch later this year, will include original content, films and TV programs from Lionsgate and other partnering studios, and archived footage from the past 45 years of Comic-Con. “We’re thrilled that the biggest pop culture event of the year will become a year-round digital channel for Comic-Con fans and audiences around the world,” said Jim Packer, the president of worldwide television and digital distribution at Lionsgate. This will be the second Comic-Con themed digital network; CONtv, sponsored by Wizard World and Cinedigm, launched back in February.
