Listen to “Deny The Absolute,” the latest track from Chicago post-metal band Pelican

Arguments over the post-metal genre distinctions aside, Chicago’s own Pelican has been booming out intricately composed instrumental music for over a decade. Last year’s Ataraxia/Taraxis EP hinted at bigger things to come, and now the band has released “Deny The Absolute,” the title track from its upcoming 7-inch. It’s five and a half minutes of relentlessly thundering forward momentum—assisted by some of the most delicate double-bass drumming you’ll ever hear—and yet more proof that pelicans are awesomely terrifying animals that should be feared by all. An alternate version of “Deny The Absolute” will appear on the band’s forthcoming full-length album Forever Becoming, out October 15.
