Water Liars’ self-titled new record isn’t out until Feb. 4 on Big Legal Mess and Fat Possum Records, but The A.V. Club is premiering a brand new track, “I Want Blood,” today. The Mississippi-based trio just released its last record, the pretty excellent Wyoming, this past March, but hasn’t been lazing around since. The band has played a number of tour dates this year, and will play even more in 2014. The band says the new record best captures its live shows, but fans will have to wait until February to really judge whether or not that’s true. In the meantime, “I Want Blood” is a good example of the band’s country punk aesthetic and commitment to simple songs, not glossy, overworked numbers.
