Listen to Owen cover a bunch of Other People’s Songs
Mike Kinsella is no stranger to cover songs. Across the various seasons of The A.V. Club’s Undercover series he’s tackled Jane’s Addiction, played drums with The Promise Ring, and most recently offered up a version of Elvis Costello’s “Alison” with the reactivated American Football. Through all this Kinsella continued to release records under his solo moniker Owen, and he’s recently assembled a record full of cover songs–aptly titled Other People’s Songs–that will be released next week via Polyvinyl Records. The A.V. Club is streaming the album—which sees Kinsella run the gamut of sonic interpretations—in its entirety below. Whether he’s channeling the rambling mysticism of Lungfish or adapting Depeche Mode’s orchestral ambience, Kinsella retains the original songwriter’s charms, but he’s not afraid to add a few of his own either.
