Little Miss Sunshine directors may finally make another movie

Having your debut film become a breakout, Oscar-nominated hit certainly sets you up for a massive sophomore slump, but Little Miss Sunshine co-directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris have so far avoided that by not making another movie at all. However, it appears that they may finally be ready to take the risk, reportedly signing on to reunite with Sunshine star Paul Dano on He Loves Me, a whimsical comedy written by and co-starring Dano’s real-life girlfriend, Zoe Kazan. The film certainly sounds up their alley, concerning a young, struggling novelist with a “tortured soul” who writes about his perfect woman and ends up bringing her to life—whereupon she immediately begins questioning why she has giant breasts and no brain, amirite fellas??! Misogyny!

Anyway, this is just one of many projects that Dayton and Faris have been attached to in the last five years—including that film adaptation of Tom Perrotta’s The Abstinence Teacher and the Demetri Martin-written, Zach Galifianakis and Paul Rudd-starring, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay-produced Will—but the L.A. Times reports that they’re truly, actively developing the script right now with Kazan and Sunshine producers Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa, so this one may actually have more traction.
