Adams—who has hosted once before—returns for the final episode of the year on December 20, with musical guest One Direction. First-time host Freeman and musical guest Charlie XCX will appear the week prior, with Freeman no doubt thrilled to wear a bad hobbit costume for what we’re assuming will be at least two separate sketches. (There’s probably a Sherlock parody waiting in the wings as well.) However, all of this is dependent on the show still continuing after December 6, when James Franco and musical guest Nicki Minaj will appear. We’re putting 50/50 odds on Franco ending his show in predictable James Franco style: by revealing that he doesn’t exist, and SNL doesn’t exist, has never existed, really, if you think about it, and then just sitting down and staring into the camera. The walls of the SNL set will slowly collapse outwards, into a Borgesian labyrinth of text, endlessly repeating the words, “Franco. Franco. Franco.” James Franco will smile soulfully as the screen fades to black, having ended the show forevermore. Or maybe he’ll just make a documentary about it.
