Live from New York, it's about time: Idris Elba to finally host SNL
Emmy-nominated actor Idris Elba has sustained a thriving career involving an eclectic array of wonders, from racing cars to his successful turn as a musician and DJ (he’ll be at Coachella this year, if you feel like braving that scene to catch him in action). Still, it was always missing one thing – and no, where not talking about that one gig that’s apparently never going to happen. The Luther star has never hosted SNL. All that will change come March 9 when he finally gets his chance to take the Studio 8H stage. Hopefully he’ll be spared the Awkward Audience Questions bit.
This development was recently announced by the show’s official Twitter account. He immediately follows John Mulaney, who will host March 2 with musical guest Thomas Rhett.
Elba will be joined by fellow SNL newbie and musical guest Khalid. His episode comes just ahead of the March 15 premiere of both his directorial debut Yardie, and Turn Up Charlie, his new Netflix comedy series that he co-created and stars in.
We can prepare ourselves for the inevitable lampooning of his current reign as People’s Sexiest Man Alive, but all could be forgiven if they manage to get him back into his Heimdall gear.
