Lizzo to make film debut in Hustlers with Jennifer Lopez and Cardi B
Lizzo’s world takeover has reached its next phase. The rapper, singer, songwriter, and flautist is adding another title to her toolbox: Actress. Deadline reports that Lizzo is set to make her live-action film debut in Hustlers, the upcoming film starring Jennifer Lopez, Cardi B, Constance Wu, and several other awesome actresses as a gang of exotic dancers who cook up a scheme to rip off their obnoxiously wealthy Wall Street clients. Lorene Scafaria (The Meddler) is directing Hustlers, which is based on Jessica Pressler’s amazing New York Magazine article from 2016. The piece, titled The Hustlers At Scores, recounted how a group of intelligent dancers subverted the stripper stereotype and took advantage of their clients. Behold the original sub-headline, in all its glory: “Here’s a modern Robin Hood story for you: a few strippers who stole from (mostly) rich, (usually) disgusting, (in their minds) pathetic men and gave to, well, themselves.” It’s the feel-good story we need right now.
Hustlers is technically Lizzo’s second film project; she recently lent her vocal talents to the animated film UglyDolls, but as anyone who has seen Lizzo perform can tell you, she’s meant for live-action. Hustlers boasts an all-star lineup, including Riverdale’s Lili Reinhart, Keke Palmer, Julia Stiles, Mercedes Ruehl, The Handmaid’s Tale’s Madeleine Brewer, Transparent’s Trace Lysette, and Mette Towley.
