Lloyd Dobler shows up to a Peter Gabriel concert

For 23 years, it’s been basically impossible to hear Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes” and not think of John Cusack holding a boombox outside of Ione Skye’s bedroom window in Say Anything. So when Gabriel performed an 11-minute extended mix of the song at the Hollywood Bowl on Saturday, Cusack walked on stage and handed a boombox to the singer, who naturally raised it over his head, Lloyd Dobler-style.

Say Anything director Cameron Crowe was inspired to write that scene by Billy Idol’s “To Be A Lover,” and Cusack was actually playing Fishbone’s far less romantic “Bonin’ In The Boneyard” on the stereo when they shot the scene. Maybe he’ll show up with another boombox the next time Fishbone comes through LA? [via LAist]
