LMFAO just wants to see Kim Jong Il… shake that
LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” ruled pop charts and dance floors with an iron fist this summer, establishing an oppressive regime of thudding low end and neon-streaked synths and constructing crass, ostentatious monuments to “shufflin’” wherever it played. All that is a gross and somewhat insensitive way of introducing this absolutely bonkers mash-up, which pairs RedFoo and SkyBlu’s inescapable hit with footage of North Korean parades, military demonstrations, and rallies. As the video’s YouTube description says, “Ain’t no party like a Pyongyang party, ’cause a Pyongyang party is ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY”—though the mash-up’s true master stroke is the footage of Kim Jong Il inspecting the kitchen inside a drab highrise. Much like “Party Rock Anthem,” it’s all flashbulbs, bad haircuts, awkward movement, and flamboyant display ultimately signifying nothing.
