Logo serves up Banana and Cucumber

Here’s what’s up in the world of TV for Monday, April 13. All times are Eastern.

Top pick

Cucumber (Logo, 10 p.m.): We’ve got a double top pick tonight, as Cucumber and Banana—both created by Russell T Davies—are two companion series coming to Logo tonight. The two series premiered in the UK earlier this year and are finally coming to America’s television screens. Cucumber follows Henry Best (Vincent Franklin), a gay middle-aged insurance salesman, whose whole life is shaken up by a date gone very wrong with his boyfriend of nine years.

Banana (Logo, 11 p.m.): A companion to Cucumber, Banana follows a group of LGBTQ youth in Manchester. Banana is supposed to take a look at younger characters, but it shares a universe and even a few secondary characters with Cucumber. According to Davies, Cucumber is the novel and Banana is the collection of short stories.

Also noted

Turn: Washington’s Spies (AMC, 9 p.m.): Here to nobly attempt to fill the void Better Call Saul’s finale has left in AMC’s lineup, Turn returns to television tonight, back with its all-new longer title. Maybe a new name will help the series break out of the B streak it struck last season.

Jane The Virgin (The CW, 9 p.m.): Rogelio’s mom drops in for a visit, which means EGOT winner Rita Moreno—undoubtedly the most highly anticipated guest star for the series—is finally coming to Jane. Other things are supposed to happen, but let’s focus on the most important thing: Rita Moreno!

Regular coverage

Bates Motel (A&E, 9 p.m.)

What else is on?

The Voice (NBC, 8 p.m.): Are you watching The Voice this season? Well, it’s on tonight! Top 12! If you are watching The Voice this season then you know that Team Christina has to win.

The Following (Fox, 9 p.m.): Tonight’s episode of The Following is called “Flesh & Blood,” and knowing this show, it’s talking about the very literal versions of those.

The Originals (The CW, 8 p.m.): Klaus attempts to vanquish Dahlia, but it doesn’t go so well. Meanwhile, Jackson has a new crazy idea that he shares with Hayley. Elijah and Marcel are busy preparing a safe house in Algiers, but safe houses have a tendency to backfire on this show.

The Night Shift (NBC, 10 p.m.): It’s night time, and you know what that means! It’s time for the night shift. Paul’s breaking rules. People are getting shot. The night shift has a lot on their plates.

The Notebook (ABC Family, 8 p.m.): Who doesn’t like a good cry on a Monday night?

Taken (FXM, 9 p.m.): Or maybe you’re more into a Monday night fright. Lesson learned: Don’t follow U2 in Europe.

MLB Baseball: Yankees at Orioles (ESPN, 7 p.m.): Baseball is happening. Eat a hot dog.

In case you missed it

Game Of Thrones (newbies)/Game Of Thrones (experts): If you missed Game Of Thrones last night, you better stay off social media. While you’re at it, don’t go into any offices—yours or otherwise—or leave your home at all. Unless you don’t care about spoilers. In that case, you’re set. But also be sure to catch up on TV Club’s reviews: Newbies if you’re not a book reader and experts for all you “well, actually, in the books” assholes.
