Long-awaited hockey-themed teaming of Mitch Albom, Kevin Smith and Warren Zevon to finally happen

According to MTV's Movies Blog, Kevin Smith and Mitch Albom are teaming up to make a movie based on the Warren Zevon song “Hit Somebody (The Hockey Song)”. It’s not as unlikely a pairing as you might imagine. Zevon, a cantankerous singer-songwriter with a distinctly literary bent, was friends with lots of authors, including Albom.

Furthermore, I have it on good authority that Kevin Smith wept like a baby upon reading Albom’s Tuesdays With Morrie and screamed to the heavens, “Why? Why did Morrie have to die? We could have learned so many more heartwarming life lessons from him if only he’d held out just a little bit longer! This is even more heartbreaking than when Jennifer Lopez died in my all-time romantic comedy classic Jersey Girl!” upon its conclusion.

Smith has been taking some chances of as of late: his next film will be a buddy cop movie with Tracy Morgan and Bruce Willis from a script he didn’t write.
