Long-lost Doctor Who episodes get animated remake and U.S. release

Nearly 100 Doctor Who episodes were erased during some routine culling of the BBC’s archives back in the 1960s and ’70s. Among the episodes lost was the six-part “The Power Of The Daleks” story, which saw the first appearance of Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor. There are some traces of that story arc out there: audio recordings, stills, and in the memories of viewers like you. But fans no longer have to dramatize the arrival of the Second Doctor with hand puppets and transcripts—according to io9, the BBC has animated the “Power Of The Daleks” story, and will release the serial in early November. Here’s the first haunting teaser.

A new episode will be released daily for six days at the BBC store beginning November 5 before hitting other digital retailers on November 14. Stateside Who fans will have to wait until November 12 to catch “Power Of The Daleks” on BBC America, but their patience will be rewarded by the airing of the complete serial, which will be available online the next day. The first trailer for the serial is brief, and features the familiar villains chanting “we will get our power,” which is always a good sign on Doctor Who.
