Long-shelved Q-Tip album to see release in September

Kamaal/The Abstract, a Q-Tip album originally recorded in 2001, will hit stores belatedly in September of this year. Brought to the verge of release by Arista in 2002, it features Q-Tip rhyming, singing, and exploring his jazz influences. How close was it to seeing a release? Close enough for several publications, including this one, to run reviews. (Unknowingly insightful line from Nathan Rabin's review: "Sounds like the sort of disc that gets rappers released from their contracts.")  Battery Records is handling the release.
