Look, Weezer is going to just keep doing cover songs until you love them again, all right?
Weezer’s transition into America’s most successful touring cover band continued this week, when the band—which recently got a lot of credit for convincing people its thoroughly adequate cover of Toto’s masterpiece “Africa” was actually good—whipped out another karaoke classic: Blink-182's existentially catchy “All The Small Things.”
To be fair to Rivers Cuomo and Cuo., the motivation behind the cover—which the band played at Riot Fest this weekend—was pretty pure. Blink-182 was recently forced to cancel a number of concerts, including Riot Fest, due to medical issues affecting drummer Travis Barker, and so Weezer decided to pick up the headlining slack. In fact, this is the second time Cuomo has covered the song this week; declaring that “Weezer always has Blink’s back,” he trotted out an acoustic version of the song in San Francisco on Thursday night.
