Looking’s Jonathan Groff sees his way to David Fincher’s Mindhunter series
Looking may have been canceled, but Jonathan Groff has rebounded nicely—he’s currently playing King George III in the Broadway mega-hit Hamilton, and he’s just landed a role on Netflix’s upcoming Mindhunter series, from executive producers David Fincher and Charlize Theron. The drama and/or thriller is based on John Douglas and Mark Olshaker’s Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit, which chronicled the FBI’s pursuit of some of the most notorious serial killers; Douglas’ work in the agency has informed several movies, including Manhunter and Silence Of The Lambs.
Douglas, who was one of the first profilers, inspired the Jack Crawford character we’ve seen in the aforementioned films, as well as on NBC’s Hannibal. Groff’s role in the series hasn’t actually been announced, but it’s possible that he’ll succeed Dennis Farina, Scott Glenn, Harvey Keitel, and Laurence Fishburne in portraying the FBI agent. There’s also a chance that Groff will be asked to play an elusive serial killer, a role which his time on Glee might have prepared him for, as long as his M.O. involves singing.
