Lorde fans sweetly counter-protested the Westboro Baptists
The death of their leader, Fred Phelps, hasn’t slowed members of the Westboro Baptist Church, who protested a show by Lorde in Kansas City, Missouri on Friday. But fans—prompted by tweets from Lorde—staged a gentle counter-protest, holding signs that read “LIVE YOUR LIFE AND BE AWESOME” (very Bill & Ted-esque) and, more pointedly, “SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS.” (Very Christian.) The signs were raised after Lorde tweeted “hahaha omg just found out westboro baptist church are going to picket my show in kansas city, everyone wear rainbow clothing to that show” and “everyone try to kiss church members who are same sex as you they will so love it christmas comin early in kansas city.” She later deleted both tweets, after somebody made her, presumably. In this local news report from KSHB41 in Kansas City, one of the Church members clears the whole thing up by saying, “I don’t even know what they mean by what they’re saying.”
