Lorde will “curate” the Hunger Games: Mockingjay soundtrack

Mockingjay: Part 1, the third installment of the blockbuster franchise The Hunger Games, will be capitalizing on the hearts and feels of teen girls everywhere by adding even more star power to it. Singer/songwriter Lorde, the teen phenom from New Zealand whose smash hit “Royals” took the music world by storm last year, will hand-pick the selection of songs for the film’s soundtrack, in addition to contributing the lead single.

What does it mean, to “curate” a soundtrack? Well, presumably, Lorde will be choosing the songs from an already curated list chosen by the film’s music director, one that tends towards the moody stylings of artists like The Civil Wars, Coldplay, and Taylor Swift who made appearances on the previous Hunger Games soundtracks. But since Lorde’s providing the lead single—often the one that plays over the credits—she might also have a larger say in setting the tone. For her part, Lorde says it is “definitely going to surprise people.” Either way, Mockingjay will have a little more Pure Heroine in it than its predecessors.
