Lost finale expanded to two-and-a-half hours

As viewers of last night’s episode of Lost know, the show is entering its long, painful goodbye stage—and speaking of which, all those still reeling from “The Candidate” are urged to check out Entertainment Weekly’s new interview with the producers and actors—so it’s heartening to hear that fans will now get an extra half-hour to pay their respects. ABC has announced that the May 23 finale has been extended to two-and-a-half hours, bringing the total run of Lost-related programming that night to a staggering five-and-a-half hours when you factor in the retrospective clip show, Lost: The Final Journey, and the follow-up special, Jimmy Kimmel Live!: Aloha To Lost (which sounds like something Don Ho should be hosting, God rest his soul). Sunday's finale will also be preceded by a special Saturday broadcast of the original two-hour pilot—enhanced with those pop-ups that spell things out for people who have suffered head injuries and are unable to remember basic plot points—which should not only help fans ease into their separation anxiety, but also give ABC time to come to terms with the fact that they no longer have a show worth caring this much about. You’re not gonna get a seven-and-a-half hour farewell to V, after all.
