Loud TV commercials will soon be illegal
We may not agree on healthcare, how to fix the economy, or even whether people should or should not be torn asunder by rabid hyenas in their sleep, but last night the Senate found a bipartisan issue we can all get together on: Loud TV commercials are fucking annoying and should be banned, and so now they are. The Senate unanimously passed a bill last night requiring TV stations and cable companies to limit the volume of commercials and keep them at the same level as their TV shows; it joins similar legislation from the House, and the two will begin working with the FCC to start implementing those restrictions within the next couple of years. In the meantime, maybe we could just turn up the volume on shows like Mad Men, so we don’t have to max out our TVs to hear every portentous whisper. That would be a pretty good solution in the interim.
