Louis CK announces surprise new film, I Love You, Daddy

Surprise album drops are so common they’re not even surprises anymore, but pulling off a surprise movie is still pretty impressive. Entertainment Weekly reports that Louis CK has done just that with today’s announcement that I Love You, Daddy, a new movie shot “entirely in secret,” will be screening at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. The movie was shot in black-and-white on 35mm, and stars Chloe Grace Moretz, John Malkovich, Helen Hunt, Rose Byrne, and Pamela Aldon alongside CK himself.

No word yet on the movie’s exact plot, but CK stars as “Glen Topher, a successful television producer and writer,” with Moretz co-starring as his daughter. That sounds right in line with the Woody Allen-esque, semi-autobiographical tone of Louie, so it’ll presumably have something to do with how parenting is weird and gross and hard. It’ll also more than likely have very little to do with CK’s last feature-length directorial effort, Pootie Tang, which believe it or not came out 16 years ago this past June.
