Luc Besson mixes trippy and sexy in first Valerian trailer
The trailer for Luc Besson’s Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets is here and it’s a trippy voyage, scored to The Beatles’ “Because.” It’s got a lot of what you’d expect from a Besson movie. Cara Delevingne’s Laureline is a kickass heroine often clothed in skimpy garments. There are a bunch of flying vehicles à la The Fifth Element. The landscape has copious similarities to Star Wars’, though it is worth noting that Valerian’s source material came first.
We don’t get a truly good sense from this look of the nature of the titular character, played by Dane DeHaan, outside of the fact that he’s pretty horny for Laureline. But we care more about the ladies anyway. There’s also a glimpse of Rihanna as some kind of performer—a real stretch for her, we know. According to a Vulture report out of Comic-Con she works in a brothel. This appealingly bonkers-looking thing comes out July 21.
