Luc Besson to adapt the sci-fi graphic novel series Valerian

Luc Besson, the director of The Fifth Element and Lucy, will revisit his signature brand of zany science fiction with Valerian, an adaptation of the iconic French graphic novel series from writers Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mézières. Besson announced the project via what he adorably notes is his first tweet ever:

Besson will write and direct the film, with Dane DeHaan (Chronicle) and Cara Delevingne (Paper Towns) set to star as a pair of spatio-temporal agents who “help defend a utopian 28th-century Earth and its neighboring planets from bad guys,” according to Deadline. Hopefully, the premise will afford Besson an opportunity to put Chris Tucker in a leopard-print jumpsuit again. Production on the film will begin at the end of the year, and it will be released during summer 2017. Until then, let’s gaze at this logo:
