As revealed by BuzzFeed, Lucy Liu will be dipping her toe into Netflix’s corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe by directing the premiere episode of the second season of Marvel’s Luke Cage. Liu doesn’t have a very much directing experience beyond four episodes of her Sherlock Holmes series Elementary, but executive producer Jeph Loeb seems to think very highly of her. “When you’re dealing with a bulletproof man,” Loeb said, “it helps if you have a bulletproof director.” In her own statement, Liu said that it’s “a thrill” to work with “two industry titans” like Marvel and Netflix.
This news also solves a minor mystery from early last month, when Luke Cage star Mike Colter and Lucy Liu were spotted at a coffee shop in Harlem. People theorized that she would be appearing on the show in its next season, but now we know she’s actually directing.
Season two of Luke Cage will premiere at some point next year.
